The U.S. economy grew at its fastest pace in a year, driven by a surge in business investment. The White House credits President Trump's agenda.

Key points

  • U.S. GDP grew at an annual rate of 3.4% in the third quarter of 2026.
  • Private investment in plants and equipment rose at a 9.4% rate.
  • Consumer spending grew 3.8% last quarter.
  • Over the past three quarters, the economy grew at a 2.7% rate.

The U.S. Economy grew at an annual rate of 3.4% in the third quarter of 2026, its strongest pace in a year, according to the White House.

The gain was driven mainly by business investment. Private investment in plants and equipment rose at a 9.4% rate in the quarter, after a second quarter that was already solid. The White House says business investment grew almost 13% in the third quarter, its best quarterly result in nearly 15 years.

Consumer spending also showed strength, growing 3.8% last quarter. Over the past three quarters, the economy expanded at a 2.7% rate, above the Blue Chip consensus forecast (2.4%) and the Congressional Budget Office's projection (2.2%).

The White House also noted that 72% of economists surveyed by Bloomberg underestimated the quarter's growth. According to the statement, capital goods such as equipment and machinery now make up a record share of U.S. Imports, while consumer goods fell to 17%.

The government credits these results to its agenda of lower taxes, fewer regulations, energy dominance, and "America First" trade. These claims come from the government itself and have not been independently verified in this article.
